Guidance Notes

Is the family/ young person experiencing added hardship?

All families affected by childhood cancer are facing hardship.  However, some families can be at crisis point.  It is these families that we would like to support with our food boxes.  When you reach this question please use your professional judgement as well as thinking about the following points:

  1. Are the family facing serious financial hardship?

  2. Do the family have little or no support?

  3. Does that family have a parent who is supporting a child without a partner/spouse?

  4. Has a parent or young person had to give up work because of treatment?

All families will receive a food box and care package on initial diagnosis.   If a family or young person then fulfils the criteria outlined above, they will receive up to 4 food boxes over the course of their treatment.

Is the family/ young person newly diagnosed?

We will provide a food parcel and a care package for all newly diagnosed families being treated at The Great Western Hospital in Swindon and Oxford Children’s Hospital at the John Radcliff in Oxford.
